Today we took our Units 4 and 5 Test. (Technically it was all one unit!) If you were absent, message me.
1. Unit 6, Lesson 1 Vocab was collected today. 2. Earth's Interior as Food was also collected today. Every student starts with a 33/50 grade. The assignment will be graded on accuracy (layers), structure, creativity, and neatness. See the new section on Mrs. Brokaw's Weebly site, "Videos- 6th Grade," to watch today's video! All future videos will be found there. Test next Wednesday, March 29 over Units 4 and 5 on Schoology.
Remember, Unit 5 is a tiny section. 1. A verbal review of how vocabulary is to be completed in the science notebook, along with a written example, was done in class. Some students are becoming lazy and sloppy with their vocabulary assignments. Incorrect submissions will be graded as a zero.
2. Students used class time to make, not create (only God creates!), a food item representing the four layers the Earth: crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core. They could not make an item such as a Hostess Twinkie but could create their own original version of a hamburger. The assignment will be graded on creativity, accuracy (the food ingredient must line up with the description of the layer), and neatness. For those who did not finish in class, it is due Wednesday. 3. Unit 6, Lesson 1 Vocabulary was started in class. It is also due Wednesday. Today we focused on the Earth's crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. Keep this in mind for Monday's activity! Remember, as of right now, EVERYONE has an A in 6th grade Science! Let's be positive and thankful! Have a blessed weekend! A NEW TRIMESTER IS HERE! WE START OFF FRESH TODAY! 1. Unit 5, Lesson 1: Earth's Interior
2. Vocabulary due Wednesday at the beginning of class 3. We read the eText today and will continue on Wednesday. 1. We continued discussing the Dead Sea.
2. We watched a video showcasing the development of a self-containing ecosystem after the building of a manmade pond. 3. Student rowdiness led to poor use of class time. Therefore, today's classwork became homework due by tomorrow before dismissal. Many students attempted the extra credit question, "why is the Dead Sea so salty?" I requested a Biblical explanation as to why the Dead Sea is so salty. I am very proud of the effort given! Many theologians and Biblical scholars believe the Dead Sea is located where the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah once stood. No animal life exists in the Dead Sea due to its high salinity. God destroyed the two cities because of the wicked and sinful behavior of their inhabitants. He destroyed the people and all that grew on the ground (Gen. 19). We continued our studies of the hydrosphere focusing today on ocean water.
After today's vocabulary quiz, we continued learning about Earth's hydrosphere.
We will finish up Monday. Have a blessed weekend! |
